Sean Hannity hosts Donald Trump for a Fox News “town hall meeting” that seems more like a pro-Trump rally. The heavy-handed theme centers around terrorism and how Donald plans to fix it. Hannity helpfully reminds viewers of all the terror incidents so far this year with a highlight reel, just in case any of us forgot we’re supposed to be very afraid, all the time. Trump, naturally, bemoans the fact that his rich friends can no longer vacation in the City of Lights because terrorism has ruined France forever.

Rudy Giuliani cannot stop gushing over how great Trump’s speeches have been this week. Without a hint of irony, Giuliani enthusiastically proclaims Trump speeches have been not only been “substantive” but also the greatest speeches given by any Republican ever in the history of America.

Meanwhile, some people are still trying to argue that black people who don’t like Trump are getting it all wrong. Pro-Trump pastor Darrell Scott stops by Fox News to announce that not only have black people been tricked by Democrats into believing Trump is a racist, but that they also fail to understand satire.

Dr. Drew declares he is gravely concerned about Hillary Clinton’s health, and goes on to describe the myriad ways in which she is unhealthy, as well as how her doctors are doing everything wrong and living in a 1950s time warp. Surprisingly, Newt Gingrich is emerging as the voice of reason in this latest right-wing conspiracy on Hillary’s health.

Hillary Clinton stops in Cleveland, making sure to name-drop the Cavaliers before getting down to business – specifically, how bad at business Donald Trump really is. Trump continues to have a Hispanic problem in the polls, and the campaign is starting to seem desperate. Trump claims the New York Times cannot be fair towards him because the paper is owned by a Mexican, and the mostly-quiet-until-now GOP Hispanics released a video attempting to win back some voters via vague talk about terrorism being the Democrats’ fault.

Mikhail Baryshnikov has also come out swinging against Donald Trump. The famed ballet dancer once fled Soviet Russia and is now a naturalized US citizen. In his new video, he urges people to be careful about this election as he describes just how much Trump’s campaign reminds him of living under a dictatorship in the USSR.

Two New Hampshire politicians – one Republican and one Democrat – seem to have a hard time endorsing their respective parties’ presidential nominees. Donald Trump painted a grim picture of a nation under attack as he laid out plans for extreme ideological vetting in a speech in Ohio yesterday, that stayed mostly-on script. In the speech, he said Hillary Clinton lacked the “mental and physical stamina” to fight ISIS. Trump was on the offensive, trying push past several weeks of sagging poll numbers and recurring controversies.

It’s Friday, and once again – you can’t make up the kind of ridiculous BS Trump says.
After going on what seemed like every known form of media in the universe for a day and a half, claiming “President Obama was the founder of ISIS” Donald Trump apparently got up this morning, realized what he’d been saying, and decided to screw with the rubes even more by claiming it was a all a joke. Or as Trump tweeted Friday morning, “Ratings challenged @CNN reports so seriously that I call President Obama (and Clinton) ‘the founder’ of ISIS, & MVP,” Trump tweeted Friday morning. “THEY DON’T GET SARCASM?”
Look, Donny – we’re in the comedy business at The Stephanie Miller Show. That wasn’t sarcasm, it was stupidity. Seriously, Donny – STFU.
Meanwhile, Hillary Clinton spent Thursday talking about something everyone cares about – jobs and the economy. As usual, she had a long list of specifics, and detailed plans – like you’d expect from someone who will actually be governing the most powerful nation on Earth. That kind of responsibility not only seems to be winning over independents, but even Republicans you wouldn’t expect – like Rep Steve King of Iowa, who said publicly on Thursday that Clinton was “someone he could work with” if she were elected President. Guess there’s a first time for everything.
Speaking of firsts, yesterday at the Olympics, Simone Manuel became the first African American woman swimmer to ever win a gold medal. That amazing feat added to Simone Biles and Aly Raisman winning gold and silver in gymnastics – making it a record four wins in a row for the United States in the women’s all-around. Unsurprisingly, that record had to be topped by super swimmer and super human Michael Phelps broke a 2000 year old record for most Olympic medals ever won by any one person.
Have a great weekend!

It’s Thursday, nearly the end of another disastrous week for Donald Trump, and once again, he still can’t seem to understand that words matter, especially for someone wanting to be President of the United States.
After effectively threatening Hillary Clinton’s life earlier in the week, and being called out on it by nearly every sane person in America, regardless of political affiliation, Trump once again used his little baby hands to metaphorically shove his foot into his mouth, as he claimed that President Obama was the founder of ISIS & Hillary Clinton was the cofounder.
In Trump’s favor, he wasn’t the most disturbed man in Trump Tower on Wednesday. That dishonor belonged to a Trump supporter who thought climbing the outside of the tower with suction cups would be the best way to schedule a meeting with Donald.
Back in the sane world, Hillary Clinton continued to talk about policy this week, especially jobs and economic policy, which she’ll cap with a major address later today. Clinton also continues to choose her words carefully, writing an op-ed in the Deseret News reaching out to moderate sane Republicans in Utah, just as she was doing in a speech in Florida. She’s not promising to move their way on policy – she’s simply appealing to them on the fact that she’s currently the only sane candidate running for President from a major political party.
Meanwhile, at the Olympics, the United States continued to dominate – especially with our female athletes. Team USA picked up more medals in the pool, and cyclist Kristin Armstrong made history with her third straight cycling gold medal.
We could honestly hope nothing more bizarre comes out of the Trump camp before the weekend – but we all know that would be pointless.

In some ways, it’s hard to believe that on Tuesday, Donald Trump implied that an assassination of Hillary Clinton would be OK. In other ways, comments like his are completely in keeping with his character – and that of many others on the right – and has terrifying implications if somebody tries to act on what he said.
The reaction to Trump’s comments also show how far off the end of the scale of acceptability many Republicans have gone in their desperation to win elections, while still having zero ability or desire to actually govern.
Not surprisingly, those Republicans craven enough to sacrifice all their principles in an attempt for power, defended Trump’s comments as “a joke.” Others like that profile in courage Speaker Paul Ryan half-heartedly denounced Trump’s assassination threat, or claimed they hadn’t really heard Trump say those words.
For what it’s worth, an increasing number of Republicans and Independents – even before Trump’s insane comment yesterday – are denouncing Trump and anyone who stands with him. Most of those people are not only coming out against Trump, but coming out in favor of Hillary Clinton.
For her part, Secretary Clinton denounced Trump’s words – and then got back to doing what we’d expect a President to do: Lead on policy. Clinton called out the Republican-led Congress for going on vacation before passing a bill to fight Zika during a campaign stop in Florida.
Americans, even in red states, seem to be shifting even more towards Clinton too, based on her presidential demeanor, as both national and state level polls are beginning to forecast a landslide win for Democrats.

On Monday, Donald Trump rolled into the ‘Motor City’ of Detroit, and – unsurprisingly – the economic proposal he laid out there was as much of a wreck as the rest of his campaign. His advance team couldn’t even make sure the sound system worked right, so when Trump said “cities” it came out “titties” – which was actually one of the best parts of his rambling speech.
In brief, Trump’s latest version of his economic plan was the same warmed-over, right-wing, trickle-down Republican plans they’ve been pushing for more than 30 years; tax cuts for the rich labeled as “simplification”, while the middle class and poor would have to pay more.
While Trump was sputtering and choking like an unreliable old piece of crap car, Hillary Clinton was putting the hammer down in Florida. Clinton now leads in multiple polls by double digits, Republicans are leaving the GOP because of Trump, and a growing number of Republicans are even supporting her now. To say that Clinton is speeding away with the race right now is putting it mildly.
It’s not just Hillary Clinton that is kicking ass and taking names, with love and facts. The U.S. women’s gymnastics team at the Olympics in Rio got one of the highest scores ever on Monday, as the U.S. swim team kept kicking ass in the pool. Swimmer Lilly King cleanly beat her Russian rival, a woman who – like much of the Russian team – has been caught or associated with doping & cheating allegations in the past.
2016 is definitely driving forward as a year for women & winners. Meanwhile, Donald Trump is getting his ass rolled over by a woman. It’s like the ‘Freeway of Love’ – And Hillary Clinton is at the wheel.

Another Sexy Liberal weekend in the books, and Mama didn’t fall off the stage this time, like some short-circuiting robot, so it was excellent. Apparently though, Donald Trump is now trying to claim Hillary Clinton is a short-circuiting robot, even though he’s the one that sounds like a psychotic, malfunctioning Teddy Ruxpin.
In case you missed it, on Friday, at the National Assoc. of Black Journalists/National Assoc. Of Hispanic Journalists conference, Hillary Clinton held her first official press conference in some time (a fact too many Beltway media people have been whining about). When asked about the stupid email nontroversy yet again, she mentioned that she may have “short-circuited” her answers about it a few times, instead of giving a long, drawn out explanation.
To no one’s surprise, Donald and his people took that turn of phrase and ran with it – though in Donald’s case, as usual, it’s less ‘run’ and more like ‘stumbled over the words as they dribbled out of his mouth, like an animal with rabies.’
For his part, Trump did finally stop the political bleeding from another of his self-imposed wounds over the weekend, finally endorsing Paul Ryan, John McCain, and Kelly Ayotte, who are now stuck even closer to him than they were before.
The plan for Trump so far this week? Announce a new economic plan to let Wall Street do pretty much whatever the hell it wants and get rid of the pesky inheritance tax for his millionaire kids. Meanwhile, team Clinton/Kaine are going to be campaigning in Texas – because Democrats might do far better there than previously thought.
Oh – and the Olympics started and Team USA is kicking everyone’s ass already. Not a bad way to start August.

It’s a Friday, and it’s raining bad numbers for Republican all over America.
We can start by looking at all kinds of polling in the presidential race, as polling is now starting to actually be more reliable and important – and Hillary Clinton is stomping on Donald Trump. She’s up in nationwide polling anywhere from 5-to-15 points — more than Obama was at any time in 2012. She’s also up in state polling, in battleground states like Michigan, Florida, Virginia, and Colorado. In Pennsylvania and New Hampshire, Clinton is up by double digits over Trump. And don’t even ask how bad she’s whupping Trump among minorities.
The numbers didn’t get any better for Republicans this morning as the official jobs numbers came out far better than expected. More than 250K Americans got new jobs last month, and the unemployment rate stayed the same, 4.9%. What’s more, average wages increased more than normal, and the past two months of jobs numbers were corrected for accuracy – and Americans gained more jobs than we’d previously thought.
President Obama also knocked down the idiotic story about the $400M in cash we gave back to Iran, noting it was their money to begin with – and since our sanctions on them worked so well, we didn’t have banking relations, so we had to give them the money back in cash. Even better for President Obama was the news delivered on his birthday that his approval rate is now at 54%.
Meanwhile, the Trumpster fire continued roaring as multiple media outlets have now begun question Melania Trump’s initial immigration status to America. This just adds to the list of massive problems, and infighting going on in the Republican Party, as even more Republicans keep coming out, saying they won’t be voting for or supporting Donald Trump.
You might even call today’s numbers epically bad for the GOP. Enjoy the weekend everybody!

We’re 95 days away from election day, and the Trumpster fire is still roaring. In fact, Democrats and Lefties shouldn’t think this one is in the bag yet. After the month Trump has had, you’d think any sane person would have kept their money instead of throwing it into the Trump hole. But last month, Trump nearly caught up with Clinton in his fundraising – and he hasn’t been spending nearly as much.
That big haul of cash from the rubes may not help Trump though, as the Republican Party seems more divided now, after the conventions, than they were before. Multiple reliable sources are even saying that many of the top GOP members, and even some of Trump’s kids may be staging a political intervention of sorts to try to get Trump to stop shooting himself and other Republicans in the foot.
For now, though, the polls from the state level – polls that actually are beginning to matter – are all rolling in the same direction: In favor of Hillary Clinton, often by double digits.
It should be no surprise then that the MSM, desperate to keep the illusion of a tight race going, is trying blow stupid things out of proportion that don’t even have anything to do with Clinton. The latest is the supposed problem with the US giving Iran $400M — which, as Charlie Pierce so brilliantly noted, was Iran’s money from 1979 that the U.S. has just been holding onto the whole time. And since there are still banking sanctions on Iran? They had to get their money back in cash.
We get it. Facts are hard for some folks, especially when they don’t gin up ratings. But the fact is, Trump is still a disaster – and he’s getting his ass beaten by a girl.
That disaster still has a chance to win, though. So go register – and then vote!

It’s been almost a week since Khzir & Gazala Khan, Gold Star parents of Captain Humayun Khan stood in front of America at the DNC and called out Donald Trump for his hypocrisy & disrespect of many American military members and their families — and Donald is still acting like a spoiled brat, calling the Kahns names while he attempts to defend his indefensible conduct.
And while Republicans like Sen. John McCain have joined in blasting Trump for his childish behavior, from McCain to Ryan to McConnell, Republicans still refuse to pull their endorsements of Trump.
Meanwhile, after the love-filled DNC in Philly, Hillary Clinton’s poll numbers in seemingly every poll keep putting her more strongly in the lead all the time. Her support is so strong she was campaigning in bright red Nebraska on Monday, next to billionaire Warren Buffett, who called out Trump for still not releasing his taxes.
Trump’s closet keeps exposing even more bad news, like the latest story from the New York Times about Trump’s five deferments from Vietnam. But instead of focusing on issues, Trump is spending his time attacking the media on – what else – Twitter.
Here’s a tip, Donny, from our staff member who is a veteran: Twitter wars don’t count as military service.

While seeing the first woman ever nominated for President of the United States, on a major political party’s ticket was incredible, there’s no place like home, where there aren’t any orchestra pits to stumble into.
While Hillary Clinton was an amazing part of the convention, the Gold Star family of Capt. Humayun Khan, who made one of the most amazing speeches about his son at the 2016 DNC, in some ways stole the show. Not surprisingly, Donald Trump can’t handle anyone having more of a spotlight than him, even the grieving parents of a dead U.S. soldier. So he spent the weekend bashing Mr. & Mrs. Kahn instead. That kind of behavior would normally shame any politician, and make them run from Trump – something Khzir Khan begged GOP leaders to do.
Not surprisingly, GOP leaders didn’t actually denounce Trump. All of them gave half-hearted statements, not even daring to get in front of a camera or microphone, saying that what Trump said was awful and they don’t entirely agree – but he’s still going to be their nominee for President.
Elsewhere, Hillary Clinton & Tim Kaine began their campaign with a bus tour across the Rust Belt of Pennsylvania, even as conservative media and former Trump supporters like Mark Cuban boldly and strongly came out as Hillary supporters.
At the same time, the Trump/Putin connection seems to be showing even more of it’s ugly face, even though Trump clearly doesn’t seem to know what the hell has been going on with major international issues, like Russia invading Crimea.
All this? And Hillary only gets a 7-point bounce in the polls. Which means GET OUT THERE AND REGISTER GOOD PEOPLE TO VOTE. And don’t fall into an orchestra pit while you’re doing it.

Well, it’s official. As of last night, the Republican Party has nominated a fascist-wannabe, or as Sen. Warren accurately said on Colbert last night, “a two-bit dictator.”
The whole last day of the 2016 RNC was just like the rest of the event; a well-staged, terrifying nightmare, like something right out of a Hollywood movie. Trump’s biographical movie last night looked and sounded eerily like the movie about Biff Tannen’s life from ‘Back To The Future.’ Trump was his usually horrifying, narcissistic self in public, lying to the public. It was no surprise his acceptance speech was by far the longest in history, on purpose. Obviously, still worried about the size of his… hands.
Also unsurprisingly, his daughter Ivanka was very impressive in trying to sell her father, even claiming he’d do some things for women that are far more Democratic than Republican right now.
Thankfully, there was also some sanity on TV last night, as Jon Stewart and Sen. Elizabeth Warren stopped by The LAte Show with Stephen Colbert. Stewart was, as always, amazingly funny. And Sen. Warren once again showed why she is truly Hillary Clinton’s best pick for VP.
Now, America turns to the REAL convention, the Democratic Convention in Philly – with Sexy Liberal on Sunday night! We’ll see you there!

It’s Tuesday, Day 2 of the RNC in Cleveland, and the key thing to remember is to never plagiarize a major public address. Also – and this is a completely original thought – imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
In case you missed it, after a day where the GOP establishment basically told the #NeverTrump Republicans to STFU, and Chachi called Hillary Clinton a c*nt, the Republicans were thrilled when Melania Trump delivered her version of Michelle Obama’s 2008 DNC speech. Not surprisingly, Mrs. Trump told Matt Lauer earlier in the day that she didn’t have much help writing her speech last night – which, when you think about it, is probably true. Typing “Control C” and “Control V” on your keyboard really doesn’t count for assistance.
Meanwhile, Hillary Clinton was speaking at the NAACP conference in Cincinnati, where she said the attacks on police, and the insanely high numbers of gun deaths of African-Americans must stop. She laid out her policy, and spoke like someone who understands the complex details of governing, instead of just screaming emotionally (lookin’ at you Giuliani).
Back at the RNC, Speaker Paul Ryan made clear that Trump isn’t “my kind of conservative” – but he also made clear that he’ll vote for Trump. Which is crazy.
But somehow, that seems perfectly fitting for the Republican National Convention.

Another day, and sadly another terrorist attack, again in France. This time, it was in the seaside town of Nice (pronounced ‘Neece’), where French citizens and tourists were watching the Bastille Day fireworks – bascially, France’s ‘Independence Day’ – when a crazed terrorist drove a semi truck into a crowd of people killing at least 80.
While it’s not entirely surprising that our presidential candidates and their surrogates called into the cable news shows after the horrific event, what some of them said was a bit surprising – and that’s even considering all the trash that’s come out of Donald Trump’s mouth this cycle.
Trump called into Fox, and in talking with Bill O’Reilly said that he’d not only go to Congress to have them declare a formal war against ISIS, but that what we’re looking at is a new world war, one he seemed excited to get other people’s children to die in.
It got worse. Newt Gingrich called into Fox to say not only should America fight terrorism, but that we should test every Muslim in America by asking if they believe in sharia law, and if they do we should deport them. Gingrich also said that everyone looking at or creating a website that talked about terrorists should be arrested. There goes your free speech rights.
Hillary Clinton also called in, both to CNN and Fox, and admitted that we appear to be in a war against radical jihadists. But, as you’d expect with someone experienced with hard choices & diplomacy, she noted this is not like any other war we’ve ever fought. We have to be careful, diligent, and strengthen our alliances with people all over the world – including Muslims – in order to fight the radical extremists.
In other words, Hillary Clinton understands the nuances of this horrible fight.
Trump still just wants to ‘bomb the sh** out of ‘em’ like a child.

It’s Thursday – even though it may feel like a Friday, with Fugelsang and Frangela in the house! Don’t get divided and confused though – leave that up to the Republicans, who are ramping up for their hate-a-palooza in Cleveland next week.
Donald and the GOP – well, HALF of the GOP – released their list of speakers for the 2016 RNC, and while Trump was bragging this was going to be the most exciting convention ever, so far it looks like a warmed over rerun of ‘The Apprentice’ with Gary Busey, Meatloaf, and Omarosa might be both more exciting and have more color than the RNC will.
Donald also claims he’ll be announcing who his vice-presidential victim– er, running mate will be on Friday, even though he can’t even figure out how many finalists he’s narrowed the list to.
Hillary Clinton spent Wednesday doing the kinds of things presidents do – addressing some of the major issues in America that continue to divide the nation. She did so from the Illinois statehouse, a place where 160 years ago, Abraham Lincoln gave his famous ‘A house divided’ speech. As Clinton noted, we’re still divided in some ways. But that only means we need to work on listening to one another, building bridges and finding common ground – not making the divisions worse between us.
Meanwhile, the bored national political media is in their typical summer mode – freaking out about every little new poll that comes out, without really looking at poll averages or trends. Why would they do that? Those things are boring — and also correct. And those polling averages? Show that Clinton is still a solid favorite to win the race, so long as Democrats GET OUT AND VOTE.
So if you’re a worried American? Stop freaking out about the polls, get out of your house, and go register someone to vote.
But watch where you’re going and put that damned Pokemon game away.

The theme of the day on Tuesday seemed obvious: Unity.
From Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders in New Hampshire, to Presidents Obama and Bush in Dallas, from left to right, the message was clear: America remains great, but the problems we have can’t be solved by one group alone. President Obama once again noted the theme of virtually his entire political career, America is “not as divided as we seem.” President George W. Bush said, “At our best, we know we have one country, one future, one destiny. We do not want the unity of grief, nor do we want the unity of fear. We want the unity of hope…”
In New Hampshire, while there were a few extremist liberal ‘Bernie or Bust’ folks, who shouted and walked out on Sec. Clinton, most people there listened to what Sen. Sanders said, that Hillary Clinton, “will make an outstanding president” and “this election must be about bringing our people together, not dividing us up.” For her part, Clinton made that unity clear as well, saying, “In America, we don’t tear each other down; we lift each other up. We build bridges, not walls. We put common interest ahead of self-interest. We stand together because we’re stronger together.”
That doesn’t mean there aren’t those Americans still looking to divide us. The Republicans in the House spent their morning Tuesday grilling Attorney Gen. Loretta Lynch, trying to get her to join their perpetual persecution of Hillary Clinton. Donald Trump, unsurprisingly, spent Tuesday bashing Hillary Clinton and Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who simply stated some ugly but true facts about Trump.
As Greg Sargent noted in the Washington Post, the problem isn’t that we need one single person to unite all of America. The problem is that we need to look at who is trying to divide America, and understand they’ve chosen that path to failure alone. The rest of us should choose to be stronger together.

Today’s the big day – UNITY Day (Also known as ‘The Day We Can Officially Begin Ignoring Delusional Bernie Or Bust Folks’) – as Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders will be holding a joint rally (during the show!) where he’s expected to endorse her. For what it’s worth, Sen. Sanders – whom every decent Lefty has always been proud to have on our side – has pushed for and gotten some serious changes in the party platform. He’s done what so many on the Left didn’t do in 2010 and 2014 – stuck around, fought it out, and did the hard work of pressuring people he AGREES with to go just a bit harder.
Now, he’s going to do what those same people also didn’t do in 2010 and 2014 – go out and campaign hard for Democrats up and down the ballot, across the country – including and especially Hillary Clinton – so that the changes we all want will be possible in the U.S. Senate & House, the Supreme Court, and at the state level in many states.
Odd how that working ‘one’s ass off’ thing really works.
In other news, President Obama, Vice President Biden, and former President George W. Bush will all be at the memorial service in Dallas today, meeting with the families of those killed, and talking with community and police officials to see how they can be of help.
Ahead of next week’s convention, Republicans are busy crafting their official party platform, also known as ‘How to drag America back to the Stone Age.’
Meanwhile, millions of Americans aren’t paying attention to this update or anything else, other than their damned phones as they try to capture Pokemons all over the place.

It’s a Monday, after a weekend filled with protests across the nation. Some stopped traffic, some caused other delays, and there were unnecessary arrests of protestors, as well as unnecessary violence towards police. But for the most part, most Americans of all races and professions agree: We’ve got to do something about the systemic racial & economic injustice in America, and we’ve got to learn to put ourselves, metaphorically, in the shoes of our fellow Americans who are different than we are.
Not surprisingly, President Obama and Hillary Clinton both said similar things all weekend long. What was surprising was that potential GOP VP pick and former Speaker Newt Gingrich seems to agree with Clinton and Obama on this point – a position he credits to knowing and being informed by his friend, Van Jones.
In a related surprise, Donald Trump’s campaign noted that he may be interested in retired General Michael Flynn, who – over the weekend – announced that he believes women should have the right to choose abortion.
And speaking of Trump, Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg, in an interview over the weekend, said if Trump is elected, she’s moving to New Zealand.
The Notorious RBG should remain in America – so let’s not let that happen, ok?

A hell of a week – and in a morbid & sad way, a very, very American week.
Last night, in Dallas, a shooter attacked as a peaceful Black Lives Matter protest walked through the streets. He shot 12 police officers and 2 civilians, killing 5 officers. This, in the wake of the killings this week of Alton Sterling in Louisiana and Philando “Phil” Castile in Minnesota.
President Obama, at his last ever NATO summit in Warsaw, Poland immediately addressed the Minnesota and Louisiana shootings as soon as he stepped off the plane – but before the attacks in Dallas. Within 12 hours, the President was at the lectern again, addressing the killings of police officers in Dallas.
All of this happening at the same time that Republicans in Congress not only welched on their promise to allow a vote on new gun safety legislation. House Republicans have indefinitely delayed any vote on gun safety legislation, while threatening to punish House Democrats for disrupting the rules, because House Democrats desperately want to pass new gun safety legislation.
What Republicans in Congress did show they wanted to do Thursday was throw a tantrum because the FBI and DOJ didn’t find the Sec. Hillary Clinton broke any laws in using her own email server. So now, they’re promising to do an investigation of the investigation of the investigation. But still no gun safety laws.
…
We know. We’re shaking our heads too.
Be kind to one another this weekend. We all need all the help we can get.

Another day in America, and sadly, another shooting of a African American man by a white cop, for absolutely no good reason. Overnight, it was in a suburb of the Twin Cities, in Minnesota, and the victim was 32-year-old Philando Castile. Castille appears to be a good man with a gun – literally. His girlfriend got pulled over, supposedly for a broken taillight. Castille let cops know he had a gun and a permit to carry, and he was reaching for his wallet – and they shot him to death, four shots, in front of his girlfriend and 4 year old child. Thankfully, she had the wisdom to record the whole incident via Facebook Live. Amazingly, she kept calm nearly the entire time, even while her boyfriend was bleeding to death in her passenger seat.
This, while the Feds have already taken over the investigation of the killing in Baton Rouge, Louisiana by police earlier in the week, of a father of 5 who was simply selling CDs outside a convenience store.
The world does keep moving though, and in the presidential race, Hillary Clinton nailed Donald Trump outside of one of his many closed casinos, this one in Atlantic City, NJ. Clinton hit Trump hard on his habit of screwing over workers, bankrupting his businesses on purpose, and yet walking away with millions and all his toys intact.
Trump, for his part, held a disjointed, bizzare, rambling event near Cincinnati, where he had potential GOP VP pick Newt Gingrich introduce him. Trump swatted at Clinton – and a mosquito – though he barely talked about the Democratic nominee. Trump mostly reiterated his praise for Saddam Hussein and tried to defend his anti-Semitic use of a star in a recent anti-Hillary tweet.
Finally, now-former Fox host Gretchen Carlson is suing Fox boss Roger Ailes for sexual assault – and at least ten other women are now rumored to have come forward.
Only in America…

It’s Wednesday, and like Sen. Sanders, we’ve all heard enough about the damned emails. And as so many on the Left have said, it turned out there was no ‘there’ there – which is basically what FBI Director James Comey said in his rare statement on Tuesday. Frankly, it sounds like Hillary’s server could have been hacked, but the FBI couldn’t prove it was. Meanwhile, we all know the State Department computers were hacked. Maybe Sec. Clinton did a better job of protecting state secrets than other parts of the government did. Unsurprisingly, Speaker Paul Ryan has already threatened to waste even more of taxpayer’s dollars to investigate FBI Director Comey’s investigation.
Of course, the rest of right-wing also went into a rabid frenzy – which they would have done no matter what, unless Hillary Clinton was tied to cross and burned – or what Trump supporters call a “weekend party.”
Speaking of Trump, he even accused Sec. Clinton of bribing the current Attorney General to not bring charges against Clinton – yet another potentially libelous statement. But the Trumpster fire wasn’t done blowing up. Trump also praised Saddam Hussein, for killing terrorists and basically being a terrifying dictator.
That bombastic behavior is on top of Trump’s anti-Semitic, anti-Hillary weekend tweet, which Speaker Ryan was also trying desperately to condemn, even as he still tried to defend Trump as the better candidate.
And in “Sick, sad, but not surprising” news, a family man in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Alton Sterling, was shot to death outside a grocery store, while selling CDs.
Only in America.

Hope your Fourth of July holiday went as well as ours – though we hope your neighbors weren’t blowing up fireworks until 1AM like ours.
Speaking of things blowing up, it’s less than two weeks until the Trumpster fire that will be the RNC begins, and less than three weeks until the next Sexy Liberal show, right before the DNC! Not surprisingly, Donald Trump created more fireworks over the holiday weekend, tweeting out a blatantly anti-Semitic image of Hillary Clinton – that was created by a white supremacist account – before deleting the image, and trying to talk his way out of that blunder.
Sec. Clinton also made some news over the weekend as well, stopping in Washington, DC to have an interview with the FBI, which looks likely to conclude the email brouhaha with no charges and no laws broken.
In the UK, one of the idiot politicians responsible for causing Brexit, right-wing UKIP leader Nigel Farage did what most right-wingers are good at doing – being a coward – as he quit his job as head of his political party, whining that he wanted his life back.
And in the Middle East, ISIS struck again, several times, including blowing up a bomb right outside the burial place of the Prophet Mohammed. For real Muslims, attacking Mohammed’s burial place would be like a Catholic taking a dump on the alter in St. Peter’s Basilica. If someone claims to be Islamic? They would never, in a million years, make that attack where they did.
We’re off today for the holiday, running a best-of show today. See you tomorrow!

It’s the Independence Day weekend, and there are plenty of reasons to celebrate this year. One great reason? The fight for gun safety appears to be finally gaining some ground, as Speaker Paul Ryan gave in to Democrats, and will allow a vote on gun bills in the House next week, after the holiday weekend.
Another reason to celebrate? Thursday, Defense Secretary Ash Carter announced the U.S. military is ending it’s ban on transgender troops serving in the armed forces. Which is exactly as America should be, and as most service members and veterans agree; If someone can do the job, and has your back? Who and how they love doesn’t matter.
Another great reason to celebrate America this weekend? Randi Rhodes is coming back to the airwaves next week!!!
Meanwhile, Donald Trump is still blowing up like a fireworks stand doused with gasoline. His latest disasters include trying badly to joke about a Mexican plane attacking, another ‘McCain Moment’ ignoring a direct insult to Muslims by a voter at one of his rallies, and treating his workers at the Trump Taj Mahal casino so badly they’re striking. The Trumpster fire just keeps on blowing…
Enjoy your holiday weekend, check out the latest Happy Hour podcast (with Elvira, Mistress of the Dark!) and don’t blow off something important with fireworks.
Happy Independence Day!

On Wednesday, President Obama had another “last” – his last meeting at the NALC, the North American Leaders Conference in Canada, with Mexico’s young President, Enrique Peña Nieto, and Canada’s young progressive Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. And before he went to Canada’s Parliament, Pres. Obama decided he’d had enough of Donald Trump’s fake “populism”, so at a press conference, he let the orange-faced ferret wearing s***gibbon have it. As usual, President Obama was on point.
For his part, PM Trudeau and the entire Canadian Parliament not only welcomed Obama after that, for some remarks. They cheered him with chants of “Four More Years!” Yeah – we wish, our Canadian friends.
Meanwhile, back in the U.S., Sec. Clinton continues to climb in some polls over Trump, while only holding a thin lead in others. In other words, until she’s sworn in people, get your butts out there and help people get registered and vote – and help get Progressives elected on the local and state levels too!
Not surprisingly, Donald Trump campaigned on Wednesday as well – though he did it in Maine, which is an odd choice. He also continued blasting his GOP primary rivals, who he beat almost two months ago. Yeah – grudge much, orange-haired freak?
Finally, in a surprise move in UK politics, Donald Trump’s hair twin, Boris Johnson – one of the key leaders behind the ‘Leave’ movement who had helped engineer the disaster, in an attempt to become Prime Minister – announced that since the job is now a steaming pile of garbage, he was NOT going to run for PM.
Looks like gutless cowards not only look alike, but act alike. Must be the hair.

Another day, another act of terrorism, this time in another of the world’s busiest airports, in Istanbul, Turkey. At last check, 41 people had been killed – and no surprise, Donald Trump was ramping up the fear and hate rhetoric again, claiming that waterboarding would be a good idea.
That blast of bombast followed a day where Trump gave a trash pile of a speech on trade – which seemed appropriate, given that he was literally standing in front of a garbage pile. If he’d been standing in front of a dumpster on fire, the internet couldn’t have had a more apt visual metaphor.
Sec. Clinton campaigned in Denver and L.A. on Tuesday, deftly taking on the release of the 2 year trash pile that was the eighth Benghazi report – and which effectively vindicated her, once again. Clinton also focused on the economy, and those who’ve felt left out, as well as the terrorist attack in Istanbul.
Sen. Warren hit the campaign trail vis TV yesterday, going on The View and making it clear to bullies like Trump and Fmr Sen. Scott Brown that Warren will not be bullied by anyone, and that she and Clinton will definitely be taking on Wall St.
And while Sen. Bernie Sanders has yet to formally endorse Clinton, he too hit the TV circuit, making it clear that he’s been keeping the Democratic Party platform honest, to help working people.

Yesterday was a great day to come back from vacation, with multiple wins at the Supreme Court. The ruling on home care workers is nice – everyone should be paid at least minimum wage. And domestic abusers absolutely should lose their gun rights. The Court also, unfortunately, let former Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell off on his fraud charges – and sadly has made it harder to convict any politician of quid pro quo corruption in the future.
The big win came with the decision over the Texas anti-choice ruling, however. Not only did SCOTUS smack down the fake requirements that placed “undue burden” on women trying to get health care. In a single paragraph, Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg effectively blocked all future similar bogus attempts to block access to abortion by anti-choice forces.
It was also a good day to watch the Sec. Clinton & Sen. Warren – the perfect President/VP ticket many think – beat the living snot out of the goofy, racist, bigoted, ignorant, Cheeto-faced, ferret wearing sh**gibbon that is Donald Trump. Not surprisingly, Trump lamely attempted to answer back, and simply flailed like child throwing a tantrum. A report also came out that confirmed electing Trump would push U.S. debt levels to their highest levels ever – another good reason to never vote for Donald.
In Europe – or not Europe – the mess surrounding Brexit isn’t over yet either. Sec. Kerry went to London and Brussels to try to help cool the negotiations, but so far, things there look to be a big mess for several years to come.

Mama’s back! Did anything happen while Steph was away?
It may be three days later, but the world markets are still recovering from Steph’s vacation Brexit, after losing $2 Trillion dollars in value. Voters in the UK are already experiencing what’s being called ‘regrexit’ as more than 3.5 million have signed a petition to hold another referendum to undo last week’s vote, though most knowledgeable officials don’t think the EU or the UK governments will allow a “do-over.”
After mostly ignoring Brexit & while focusing on his golf resort, Trump slithered back to the US weekend, where he appears to be trying to change position on his mass deportation plan. At the same time, Republicans of all kinds, from George Will to Mitch McConnell, are trying to distance themselves as far as they can from Trump. Will even left the GOP officially over the weekend.
Meanwhile, Sec. Clinton and Sen Warren are holding their first joint campaign event today in Ohio, even as the Supreme Court releases it’s final rulings of the session, including a big ruling on abortion. This happens as Clinton has begun beating Trump badly in polling, up double digits in some polls. Of course, the only poll that matters? The VOTE in November!!! So get out there! Register! Vote! Be #StrongerTogether

Well, everybody warned us, when Mama goes on vacation, things blow up. And holy cow, the whole damned western world blew up yesterday. Overnight, the skeeters in the UK decided they would vote for the UK to leave the European Union. But those fools, just like Trump voters, obviously didn’t think the whole thing through.
The UK pound has now lost billions in vale, effectively wiping out any economic gains their nation has made in the last 14-plus years. It’s thrown the world markets into disarray. And those racist fools – who effectively said, “We hate brown people! So we’re going to destroy our country so they won’t come here anymore!” – likely won’t have much of a country to return to. Scotland and Northern Ireland wisely wanted to stay in the EU, and they’ve hated England and Wales for easily a thousand years. So now, both Scotland and Northern Ireland have said they’ll be holding votes soon to leave the UK and rejoin the EU.
Meanwhile, Donald Trump, the Cheeto Jesus for morons, traveled to his golf course in Scotland, and in his press conference there, proceeded to brag about his golf course, and told reporters that he didn’t really need foreign policy advisors and there wasn’t anything to talk about.
And that was just this morning. Yesterday, House Democrats ended their sit-in for gun safety, and the Supreme Court ruled on affirmative action (good ruling), Immigration (not a great ruling), Native American sovereignty (good ruling). The Freddie Grey verdict also came down (bad ruling). And that was just the day in the courts.
On top of that, there was an attempted mass shooting in Germany, a massive oil spill near Ventura California, a massive settlement agreement from VW for their pollution scandal, a rare tornado in China killed 98, and the 50 year civil war between Columbia’s government and the rebel group FARC finally ended. And a jury found Led Zeppelin not guilty of copying the intro to ‘Stairway’ from another group.

At least someone is standing up – or rather, sitting down – for democracy in Washington, or as the kids like to call it, “What the majority of America wants.” As we were getting off of Mama’s airwaves on Wednesday, Rep. John Lewis and the House Democrats were just getting started with their “No Bill No Break” sit-in inside the U.S. House of Representatives.
Not surprisingly, Speaker Paul Ryan is probably wishing he’d ran for president, or probably done anything but become Speaker of the House. He tried – lamely – to stuff, stop, and silence House Democrats, at one point calling for a vote on the Fiduciary Roll. That was an attempt by House Republicans to help their friends in the banking industry cheat investors, even while house Democrats were simply asking for a vote on gun safety bills, something 90% of Americans want.
Democrats both inside and outside wouldn’t stop though, even as Republicans shut down the cameras on C-SPAN. So Democrats innovated, grabbing their cell phones, and feeding the video to C-SPAN via Periscope & Facebook Live. Outside the Capitol building, protesters joined the House Democrats inside, berating Republicans as they left the House to do what some House Republicans openly said they’d be doing – drinking and smoking cigars.
Meanwhile, Republicans’ Trumpster fire of a presidential candidate, Donald Trump, gave a “speech” yesterday, which was little more than one of his biggest collection of lies and smears of Hillary Clinton. Trump may even have crossed the line with the legally slanderous claim that Clinton was trading favors for cash as Secretary of State.
Sec. Clinton gave her own rebuttal speech, giving detailed accounts of what her economic policies would do, and how she plans to implement them — and then she unloaded on Trump, exposing him for the gutless, cowering, childish bully he is.
One side of the political aisle keeps standing up for all of the American people – even when they’re sitting down – while the other side keeps showing who they really serve – and it isn’t the American people.

It’s Wednesday and the Cheeto Jesus of the GOP, Donald Trump, is supposed to be giving a major speech today bashing Hillary Clinton. That event will likely be like most of his appearances in the media currently – little more than another distraction from the massive problems of his campaign.
From Trump’s campaign being effectively broke, to his inability to raise money for the Republican Party, to his horrible business record, to his still not producing his tax records, to his kids seemingly giving him ultimatums about his campaign, the Trumpster fire only seems to keep getting higher.
On Tuesday, Donald went in front of a group of supposed evangelical leaders to lie about his faith, where he blasted Sec. Clinton saying no one has ever heard her say much about her faith – which was almost immediately debunked by video of Clinton in January, talking about her Methodist faith.
Meanwhile, Sec. Clinton laid out another blistering attack on Trump in her speech Tuesday about economics, and about how bad Trump would be for America, economically. She isn’t kidding; economists from the left, right, and center have all said what she laid out on Tuesday – a Donald Trump presidency would send America into another massive recession.
Sec Clinton was helped by Sen. Warren on Tuesday, who released a video of her own, blasting Trump for being a “fraud and a cheapskate’ and asking a very valid question: If everyone else has to pay their taxes, why doesn’t Donald Trump?
And in surprising news, the Senate appears to be working on some truly bipartisan gun safety legislation, after Republicans in the Senate on Monday did the bidding of their NRA masters and killed four gun safety bills.

Here’s the copy for the day:
Another day, another vote on gun safety bills failed, thanks to the gutlessness and cowardice of too many in Congress – mostly Republicans, but a few paid-off Democrats as well. In case you missed it, the Senate did vote on four gun safety measures Monday afternoon, and all four failed. This, even as the latest poll, in line with other recent polls on gun safety, said 90% of Americans – including gun owners – want truly universal background checks. Other gun safety measures are also widely supported. Apparently, even gun owners don’t want ignorant, mentally ill people, or people on a terrorism watch list to have guns. Sadly, too many politicians desperate for money will still do whatever the NRA pays them to do.
Speaking of people desperate for money, fundraising numbers for May came in, and both Donald Trump and the Republican Party are looking like the amateurs they are, when it comes to being able to fund their election efforts this year. Hell – Ben Carson’s suspended presidential campaign has more cash-on-hand right now than Trump’s campaign does, and it’s been dormant (just like Carson) for months.
Apparently, Wall Street is also trying to throw their weight around, by attempting to scare off the Clinton campaign from picking Sen. Elizabeth Warren for VP – but sources who know say their little Wall Street tantrum probably will make it more likely that Clinton choose Warren, not less.
Speaking of Sec. Clinton, she’s set to give a major speech on Donald Trump’s economic plans this afternoon, similar to the address she gave recently where she exposed Trump’s foreign policy as total BS.
You know what that means: We’ll be spending the afternoon eatin’ popcorn, watching Hillary eat Donald’s lunch.

It’s Steph’s vacation, but Frangela is in all this week, thankfully.
Today is the summer solstice, officially the longest day of the year, sunshine-wise. That’s not exactly a comforting thought to people in the South and West, where temps in places like Arizona reached 120F over the weekend. That’s almost as crazy as as taking a vacation to go hiking in Maine… (We kid!)
Congress is voting on gun safety bills today (If you haven’t called your Senators yet, do it now: 202-224-3121), and the weekend had some strange movement on that. While Donald Trump has the backing of the NRA, even Trump seems to be in favor of banning people on the terrorist watchlist from having guns. Guess that shows how stupid someone really has to be to vote against that kind of gun safety law.
Donald Trump is still causing all kinds of splits in the GOP, though. There’s even a movement now of people who say they’re going to challenge Trump at the GOP convention.
In good news, the Cleveland Cavaliers FINALLY won a NBA championship, doing what no team had ever done, coming back from a 3-1 loss record in the championship games. If that kind of magic can happen? Why not elect the first woman president too? 😉

It’s the last day before vacation – and what a week it’s been!
After Wednesday’s filibuster, Democrats in the U.S. Senate were finally able to make Republicans say ‘uncle’, and now have votes scheduled for Monday on multiple separate gun safety bills. While no one sane is underestimating the cowardice of lawmakers bought and paid for by the NRA, these efforts actually have a bit more heft behind them this time. Groups from the Brady Campaign and Everytown for Gun Sense to even the American Medical Association – the AMA – are pushing Senators to vote the right way next Monday.
For his part, President Obama once again acted as the consoler-in-chief, flying to Orlando with Vice President Biden, to meet with and comfort the families of victims. At the same time, Pres. Obama also continued to press Congress to “do the right thing” on the gun safety measures coming up for a vote on Monday.
In Campaign 2016, the general election continued to heat up as Sec. Clinton earned the endorsement of America’s largest worker union, the AFL-CIO, and her campaign is beginning to seriously vet Sen. Elizabeth Warren for VP. Oddly, Sen. Bernie Sanders addressed his supporters in a video town hall last night, insisting he’s still not giving up his campaign yet, though it was fairly obvious the he will soon do so – and join Clinton in making sure Donald Trump never becomes president.
For Republicans, the news on Thursday didn’t get any better. Former Bush official and one of Right’s top national security figures, Dick Armitage, said that he will back Clinton over his own party’s nominee. Top consultant Rick Wilson utterly destroyed those cowardly Republicans now slinking their way behind Trump. And Sen. John McCain, in either the pander of the century or a scary senior moment, accused President Obama of being responsible for ISIS – which George W. Bush & Dick Cheney are actually responsible for. His staff, like the nurses at a senior home, rushed to clean up after him, putting out press releases and tweets that backtracked what McCain had said.
And in sad overseas news, progressive MP Jo Cox died, after a gun attack in Britain, by an apparently right-wing extremist. Be careful out there folks. Frangela is in next week!

So… What did you DO about gun safety in America in the last 24 hours? If you’re a Democratic member of the U.S. Senate, you most likely finally stood up and said “Enough!” After a 14 hour 51 minute filibuster began by Senator Chris Murphy of Connecticut, a long list of Democratic Senators – and two Republican Senators, Sen. Ben Sasse and Sen. Pat Toomey – held the floor of the U.S. Senate, demanding a vote on two major gun safety bills: Expanding background checks to be truly universal, and the so-called ‘No Fly-No Buy’ bill, which would prevent anyone on the official terrorism watchlists from buying any firearms.
Sec Clinton also made it clear she stood with Democratic members of the Senate in their efforts, as did many famous Americans, including Oprah Winfrey, who officially endorsed Hillary Clinton for President yesterday.
Most Republicans did what Republicans have gotten very good at doing lately; staying quiet, and avoiding reporters and the media.
That really shouldn’t be much of a surprise, considering their nominee for president, who has dragged Republican favorability ratings to all time lows. He’s done it through a series of lies, slanders, and hypocrisy, including claiming the LGBTQAI community supports his comments after Orlando, that U.S. soldiers stole money from the government in Iraq, and that President Obama is secretly in league with the terrorists.
And it’s only June.

While we’re all incredibly glad the primary season is officially over, and Hillary Clinton won a huge victory in DC on Tuesday, the biggest political news of the day was the double team ass whupping that President Obama and Sec. Clinton gave Donald Trump and Republicans on their phony argument over the phrase “Radical Islam.” Even Sen. Sanders, in a speech effectively acknowledging Clinton’s win, joined in to hit Trump on his idiocy and hypocrisy. He and Clinton went to to have a positive and substantive debate Tuesday evening on the next steps for the Democratic Party.
For his part, Donald Trump – on the holiday he shares with the U.S. Army – made it clear he’s not even willing to share his birthday with the Army, as he acted like a petulant child, accusing members of the U.S. military of stealing big piles of cash in Iraq. He also tried, insanely, to claim that he’s a bigger defender of LGBTQA rights than Hillary Clinton.
President Obama and Sec. Clinton, however, took no BS from the orange fool with the Napoleon complex, hitting him on multiple issues, at nearly the same time, using incredibly similar words.
House Democrats on Tuesday also finally had enough of their Republican counterparts doing nothing on gun safety legislation, as they effectively staged a protest on the floor of the U.S. House, after the Orlando shooting. House Republicans responded by blocking a vote on a bill that would ensure federal contractors can’t discriminate on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity.
In the midst of all this, it was also discovered that the Russian government had hacked the DNC’s servers, apparently to get opposition research on Donald Trump, among thousands of other documents. And it was only Tuesday.

Even while America is still reeling from the massacre in Orlando over the weekend, time marches on, with several semi-important events of note today. Today is the last primary election day this year (HALLELUJAH!), as residents of Washington, DC, voting on the Democratic ballot get to stand and be counted today. It’s also supposed to be a semi-holiday for Americans – Flag Day, when we celebrate the Congress’ adoption of the first American flag on June 14, 1775. Last, and certainly least, it’s also the 70th birthday of the orange proto-fascist Donald Trump.
As more and more info comes out about the massacre in Orlando, the facts continue to pile up that this incident is more about bigotry and guns than it is any other subject, even if many on the right are still scrambling to avoid talking about those topics. Democrats in Congress have made it clear, they will be bringing new gun safety bills up for votes, regardless of what the Republican majority wants.
Surprisingly, not everyone on the right is saying what you might think. Some Republican legislators have begun leaking that they might finally be in favor of some new gun safety legislation. Even Fox host Bill O’Reilly admitted on Colbert last night that he’d be in favor of a new assault weapons ban.
Meanwhile, Pride celebrations around the country, while beefing up security, are continuing loud and proud – and Democrats are even standing up for gay men, saying there should be an end to the ban on gay men donating blood.
Things can change. We are #StrongerTogether. Let’s do what it takes.

The worst mass shooting gun death in American history, and – outside of war – one of the worst in human history. There’s no other way to say it. This should not be happening, in America or anywhere.
At least 50 people died at the Pulse nightclub, a well-known LGBT nightclub in Orlando, Florida that was having it’s weekly ‘Latino night’ special — and was a perfect target for a deranged American, who by the accounts of many who knew him, was a bigoted, racist, misogynist with mental problems.
From the moments the nation began to wake up to the news, the reaction from Americans, and from the presumptive nominees of both major political parties has been measurably different. While Sec. Clinton’s first tweet noted shock, she was obviously concerned with the victims and their families. Donald Trump first oversimplified the incident, then out himself at the center of the spotlight, saying, “Appreciate the congrats for being right on radical Islamic terrorism…”
That kind of selfish arrogance and hubris has been a key failing at the heart of the civil war within the GOP, and it flared strongly this weekend at a Republican summit held by former Mass. Gov. Mitt Romney in Utah.
For as difficult as the Democratic primary has been, Sen. Sanders made it clear over the weekend that he too stands with common sense gun safety laws, as Democrats, and indeed Americans of all stripes did the humane thing, thinking first about others, about those affected by this violence, instead of themselves.

It’s a Friday, and after a Thursday where Democrats were handing out Republican asswhuppings and candy, they seemed to have ran out of candy around breakfasttime on Thursday.
Thursday began with a meeting between Sen. Bernie Sanders and President Obama about the Democratic Primary, and after the speech, Sen. Sanders came out of the White House, effectively acknowledge he’d lost the Democratic Primary, and vowed to go all in on Donald Trump. Shortly thereafter, President Obama released his official endorsement of Sec. Clinton in a three-minute video, that made it clear he is fired up for Hillary Clinton, and ready to hit the campaign trail. In fact, Obama and Clinton have already scheduled their first campaign appearance for next week.
Things really got ramped up in the evening, however, as Sen. Elizabeth Warren and Vice President Biden gave blistering speeches and attacks on Donald Trump and all the Republicans have and are enabling Trump, a a gathering of the American Constitution Society. Warren followed that up with her own official endorsement of Sec. Clinton on Rachel Maddow’s Show on MSNBC.
And what were Republicans doing?
Most were backpedaling, trying to avoid questions about Trump, and his latest scandal, the Trump apparently doesn’t pay all his bills – an odd problem for a man who claims to be so wealthy. Not all Republicans are sticking with Trump, however. Sen. Lindsey Graham has made it clear he won’t, and it now appears Republicans like Sen. Susan Collins may join him.

From the top down, it seems that everyone except a few dead-enders know that the Democratic Primary race is finally over. From President Obama, to top Sanders supporters, the word is getting out that it’s time to move on – even if some, like Vice President Biden are urging Democrats to let Sanders & his supporters unite at their own pace. Even MoveOn.org, a Sanders supporting group, has made it clear that it’s time to put the primary behind. And while some few die hards in the Clinton camp seem loathe to admit it, the word from some of Sanders’ top surrogates is that he understands and agrees that it’s time to unite. Sanders is even set to meet with President Obama today to talk about the further reunification of the Democratic Party.
Meanwhile, on the right, the Trumpster fire & GOP civil war appear to have no end in sight. While Trump is angrily lashing out at Republicans, telling them to ‘man up’ and get behind him, some Republicans continue to call for an open revolt at their convention – and their voices are getting louder. Trump’s problems don’t end there. Trump’s support on Capitol hill – what little there was – appears to be drying up. Americans still rightly think Trump’s racist comments about Judge Curiel were racist, and many want him to apologize And on top of it all, Trump now says he doesn’t really need to fundraise, because he ‘gets so much free publicity’ from the media.
It’s even worse for the GOP on the state level in places like California, where the general election competition for the Senate seat being vacated by Sen. Boxer will between two Democrats – and no Republicans.
Still – there are plenty of areas in the country where too many Republicans are still holding things back. So it’s time to get active – NOW.

It was a historic last ‘Super Tuesday’ last night in the United States of America as former Secretary Hillary Clinton passed the point in the vote totals where she became the first ever presumptive nominee for president of a major political party in this nation. Even with clear and strong wins from California to New Jersey, she was gracious to Sen. Bernie Sanders, making it clear that “unity is better than division” and that we are all “better together.”
For his part, Sen. Sanders arrived late to his rally in Santa Monica – after 2AM East Coast time – and was alternately kind and defiant to Sec. Clinton. What was obvious is that Sanders does NOT want Trump to win, and he seemed to make some comments towards future reconciliation, even as he promised to take things all the way to the Democratic convention.
It may not have helped Sanders that a blistering expose, obviously created from leaks inside his own campaign, came out in Politico Tuesday night, showing that whatever positivity Sanders’ fans have been experiencing, life inside his campaign has been anything but harmonious.
On the GOP side, even as the Trumpster fire continued to explode, and Republicans of all striped denounced and ran away from him, Donald Trump took the podium last night to give a stilted and odd speech – from a teleprompter – after a non-apology apology press release earlier in the day over his racist comments towards a judge.
The general election starts today, folks. Game on.

First – before anything else – if you’re in a state that’s voting today? GO. VOTE. NOW. Put down your phone, get off your ass, and go vote FOR WHOMEVER YOU WANT (except Trump).
It’s the last really, super duper Tuesday of the 2016 primaries (Yes, DC – we know you vote next week), and the entire day got pre-empted last night by the AP. After calling superdelegates and asking them who they were voting for, the AP reporters did the math and realized Hillary Clinton had passed the mark to make her the first ever female nominee for President by a major political party in the United States.
Not surprisingly, neither Clinton, Sanders, or their teams seemed to be happy with this last-minute metaphorical stick-in-the-spokes before election day. Also not surprisingly, the Sanders camp continued to say that even with big wins today, Clinton won’t secure the nomination. What was a small surprise was the announcement this morning by Rep. Nancy Pelosi that was officially endorsing Hillary Clinton.
Remember – if you’re in a state that’s holding an election today? VOTE!
Over in the Trumpster fire that is the Republican Party, while Republican leaders keep trying to distance themselves from their chosen nominee, the candidate himself seems to be pouring gas on the fire, telling his surrogates increase the criticism of anyone calling him out on his racist comments. That directive just adds to the growing problems surrounding the massive fraud of Trump University. Trump also now appears to be getting a tax cut in New York that’s supposed to be reserved for middle class families. No wonder Trump doesn’t want anyone seeing his complete tax returns.

Democrats were handing out candy and and political asswuppings to Donald Trump on Thursday – and they obviously ran out of candy before the day even started.
Hillary Clinton, in a major policy speech on foreign policy in California was brilliant, concise, and brutally honest, eviscerating Donald Trump in a 35 minute speech that even many Republicans admitted was amazing. She called out many of Trump’s disasters, called him “dangerously incoherent” and “temperamentally unfit” to be president.
Current President Barack Obama also smacked down Trump yesterday, at his final Air Force commencement speech, repeatedly making the comparisons about those who threaten war and conflict, and the gains America has made under his tenure with diplomacy, and other kinds of outreach.
Former President Bill Clinton, campaigning for his wife in Las Cruces, New Mexico also tromped Trump, noting that Hillary wants to “build bridges, not walls”, and noting that she is in favor of massive infrastructure investment in America (which would create lots of jobs), as well as comprehensive immigration reform.
On the GOP side, House Speaker Paul Ryan finally capitulated, giving a meek endorsement of Trump to his hometown newspaper and the AP, but not giving any real speech about his newfound support for the Republican nominee.
For his part, Donald Trump held a rally in San Jose on Thursday, where he entered the event to one of Hitler’s favorite songs, and blasted Hillary Clinton saying she should go to jail. Trump protesters unfortunately fought with some of Trump’s fans outside that rally, causing a big spectacle for cable “news” channels.

For those people foolish enough to think a Donald Trump presidency would be filled with anything other than petulance and drama, the world got a taste of what that nightmare might look like on Tuesday. Trump tried – and failed – to defend his claims in January that he’d already chosen the veterans groups he was supposedly given $6M to, and that he’d already given that money to those groups a long time ago.
When members of the media from across the spectrum confronted Trump with the fact that his claims didn’t match reality, he did what any short-tempered, arrogant bully does — and began beating up on those using facts to expose his lies.
Meanwhile, Hillary Clinton picked up the endorsement of California’s Governor Jerry Brown, a person who’s feuded with the Clintons in the past. Clinton also picked the first ever presidential endorsement of the NRDC, a group that hasn’t always stood with Clinton. Both endorsements seem to highlight the difference between how progressives and Trump handle disagreements.
Speaking of endorsements and Trump, the Republican nominee also picked up an endorsement Tuesday – the insane, crazy-haired leader of North Korea, Kim Jong Un. [Try reading that without hearing Jim Ward’s impression of Kim Jong Un in your mind. You can’t do it.]
Back in the U.S., while the Colorado GOP is still passing around racists photos of President Obama, the President himself is headed to Elkhart, Indiana today to highlight the economic news that consumer spending in the U.S. – a sign of continued improvement – is at it’s highest level in six years. That trends along with Obama’s approval ratings, which are also at their highest level in years.

As America returns from a long Memorial Day weekend, the Democratic primary heads into the final stretch, with primaries in six states happening next Tuesday. Sen Bernie Sanders continues to say somewhat confusing things about unifying Dems, but one key message he keeps repeating is clear: He’ll do whatever it takes to help beat Donald Trump. If you understand math, that means he’s going to be supporting Hillary Clinton & urging his supporters to do the same.
Meanwhile, the Trumpster fire continues in the GOP, as the Republican nominee Donald Trump and his campaign continue to stumble and fight with everyone. Trump’s lies keep piling up too; on donations to veterans, on immigration, and over the weekend, on the drought in California. Trump said the drought was over – which is news to scientists, who know that California is still suffering the worst drought in 500 years.
The Republican Party seems to be in even worse shape, as former young leaders in the GOP like Marco Rubio are apologizing for their previous critiques of Trump, and now pretty much bowing to whatever Trump wants.
For those people who still think a third party effort in America today is viable (It’s not – again, do the math), the Libertarian Party chose their Presidential & VP candidates over the weekend, after a parade of potential nominees — including at least one candidate who stripped naked, live on C-SPAN.
That act alone will certainly qualify as memorable, though that’s certainly not what Memorial Day is supposed to be about.

It’s Memorial Day weekend!!! Seems like the entire world needs a break from the insanity that has been the 2016 U.S. presidential primaries so far. President Obama tried to give the world that very solemn and calming start as he gave a brief address in Hiroshima, Japan, at the site where America first dropped a nuclear bomb during World War II.
Not surprisingly, Donald Trump didn’t seem to care what anyone else wanted, as he once again vainly attacked Elizabeth Warren, even as it’s obvious she’s really gotten to him. Trump also blustered on about the proposed debate between himself and Bernie Sanders. You’d think he would have talked more about the fact that he clinched the nomination on Thursday, as several uncommitted Republican delegates committed to voting for him – but things like details aren’t nearly as attention grabbing as picking fights.
Meanwhile, Bernie Sanders went on Jimmy Kimmel’s show and also talked about the debate, along with some policy discussion, while Hillary Clinton went on the Ellen show and talked a bit about her past, her family, and a bit about policy. Wonder which side is really serious about governing this country. The polls are also looking better for both Sec. Clinton and Sen. Sanders, as both of them continue to trounce Trump.
Enjoy your Memorial Day weekend, be safe, and thank a veteran or first responder!

Even while some of the media prattles on about the new report that Hillary Clinton, like many other former Secretaries of State from both parties, seems to have abused State Department rules on email, the fact is, Clinton didn’t actually break any laws. Of course, if you believe the hyperventilating Clinton haters, you probably also ought to be crucified for stealing rolls of tape from work, or photocopying your ass.
Speaking of breaking protocol, after Bernie Sanders forwarded a question to Donald Trump, through late night TV host Jimmy Kimmel, it appears the pending GOP nominee, and the won’t be Democratic nominee are looking to set up a debate between them in California before the primary there. If you don’t think Clinton won’t crash that debate, you obviously don’t know her that well either.
Overseas in Japan, President Obama has made it clear other world leaders are rattled by Trump’s arrogance and ignorance.
Meanwhile, the War on Workers (which hasn’t stopped since the 1970s) keeps beating on working Americans, while the GOP is set to officially nominate yet another selfish corporatist in Donald Trump – and he’s not ashamed of screwing other people so he can make a buck, something he’s proudly saying right now. At the same time, his attacks on Hillary Clinton for Bill Clinton’s mistakes in the 1990s look to be ineffective, even while Sen. Elizabeth Warren and several other Democrats keep landing heavy blows on Trump.

It’s another day-after-a-primary, and once again, Clinton and Trump were winners – though because Washington state already had a Democratic caucus (even though about four times as many voters showed up for the primary over the caucus) Clintons’ win doesn’t count for anything. Talk about a rigged system.
In New Mexico last night, Trump gave a speech – and protesters finally had enough. Apparently, New Mexicans don’t like the guy who wants to prevent any other new Mexicans – or any other immigrant – from becoming Americans.
Truthfully, just as John Melendez predicted, Trump’s old comments that reveal who he truly is are already beginning to cause problems for him. The latest fuel for the Trumpster fire is a 2006 interview he did for Trump University, where Trump said that he hoped a big real estate crash would happen so he could “make a lot of money.”
That comment earned him a verbal ass-whuppin’ from Rep. Tim Ryan of Ohio on the floor of the U.S House, and a blistering condemnation from Sen. Elizabeth Warren at a speech on Thursday. It also allowed former Sen Bill Bradley to expose Trump’s lies on taxes even further.
Trump also got called out by Jake Tapper for trying to use old, proven lies & smears from the 1990s.

Holy crap, it’s Monday again – and that Prince Tribute by Madonna at the Billboard Awards gave everyone in America a hangover – except of course Donald Trump, who continues to claim he’s never had a drink. Of course, he’s also probably lying about that too.
Just over the weekend alone, Trump tried to be on both sides of the topic of guns in school classrooms, it looks like he’s going to use campaign donations to pay himself back – after he said he would never do that, and the Trump campaign had to admit he didn’t actually raise $6 Million for veterans. Even the NRA is catching hell for backing Trump, after he said he supported gun safety laws. And – no surprise – data from the Republican primaries is showing that despite Trump’s claims, he hasn’t actually expanded the GOP.
And while much of the mainstream media is screaming about polls, the fact is that polls don’t mean much this far out from the general election – a fact Hillary Clinton calmly noted over the weekend.
In fact, even as the Democratic primaries continue, and Bernie Sanders continues to say Democratic voters should choose him, both Sanders and Clinton seem to be moving towards a single message – that everyone on the Left, as well as all Americans are stronger together. Also unsurprisingly, that’s why right-wing trolls are trying to pose as lefties, in an increasingly sad attempt to divide Progressives and Liberals so that Trump can win.
Meanwhile, President Obama is making new allies in foreign policy during his trip to Southeast Asia, even as Congress is – shockingly – actually getting some real work done.
A GOP-led Congress doing actual work? Looks like anything is possible after all.

Someone finally said it, and thankfully it was Hillary Clinton.
In an interview with CNN’s Chris Cuomo on Thursday, Former Secretary of State – and likely Democratic Nominee – Hillary Clinton flat out told Cuomo that Donald Trump is not qualified to be President of The United States. She went on to note that Trump’s comments and tweets, before anyone knows for sure, that the crash of the EgyptAir jet this week was terrorism, is the kind of reckless talk that’s dangerous to the United States.
While Clinton was being presidential with CNN, Trump seemed to be practicing to be a fascist dictator, trashing Hillary Clinton at a Chris Christie fundraiser. This after recently going on Fox and effectively threatening Washington Post owner Jeff Bezos for publishing criticism of Trump.
Meanwhile, Sen. Bernie Sanders may be changing his tune, ever so subtly, he seems to have continued noting he beats Trump in the polls, while stopping some of his attacks against Clinton, and beginning to note Democratic unity and togetherness in his speeches.
While Congress did make positive steps on Thursday towards marijuana and getting rid of the traitorous confederate flag, unfortunately Republicans in the House played a bait-n-switch, screwing over LGBT Americans once again.

Another plane has gone down mysteriously – this one of a plane headed from Paris to Cairo – so cable news has gone into full crazy speculation mode. That hasn’t slowed down the crazy news coming from the 2016 U.S. presidential election.
It’s like opposite world, as somewhat surprisingly, the Democratic Party seems to be the one dealing with serious internal conflict between Sanders’ extremists and the rest of the party. Many are calling for Sanders to get out now, while many others say Sanders has every right to stay in, even though he’s effectively mathematically eliminated.
Amid the Democratic infighting, Republicans seem to have finally agreed to give up on a third party alternative to Trump, and Bill O’Reilly is even entreating his viewers to stop hating Obama & Clinton. At the same time as Democrats keep fighting, Donald Trump seems to be gaining in the polls and moving forward. Trump even released a list of potential Supreme Court nominees on Wednesday, a murderer’s row of conservative extremist judges who would almost assuredly turn the Supreme Court into a wholly illegitimate institution.
Meanwhile, some in DC actually tried to get some governing accomplished on Wednesday, as Democratic Rep. Barbara Lee got her fellow House members to discuss and even vote on repealing the 2001 Authorization for Use of Military Force. At the same time, Speaker Paul Ryan looks to have struck a deal with President Obama to help Puerto Rico with its massive debt problem.

It was another primary Tuesday, and – no surprise – Donald Trump won the Republican primary in Oregon. For the Democrats, however, Clinton and Sanders split the night, with Sec. Clinton winning by a razor-thin margin in Kentucky, while Sen. Sanders won by nine percent in Oregon. That may sound like a great win for Sanders – his first in a closed primary state. But in order for it to have really been great for the Sanders campaign, he needed to win Oregon by 20 and he needed to win Kentucky by a solid margin, neither of which happened.
Those two contest results, lumped together with the events of the weekend in Nevada, the current reported rift between labor and environmentalists, and capped by Sanders’ threatened ultimatum to the DNC in his speech Tuesday night, make the current Trumpster fire in the GOP look positively cozy compared to sudden explosion on the Left. It’s even made some comment openly if Sanders wants to be the Ralph Nader of 2016.
On the right, it was a downright lovefest between Fox’s Megyn Kelly and Donald Trump on Tuesday night, even if more of his lies and chicanery were exposed. Trump also stumbled on Tuesday in an interview with Reuters, saying he’d be winning to meet with North Korea’s Kim Jong Un – after last week making it clear he might not want to meet with the Prime Minister of the UK.
In the midst of all this, President Obama just kept doing what real progressives do, making progress by boosting the pay of millions through expansion of labor overtime rules.

It’s a Tuesday – so that means more primary elections, today for both parties in Oregon, and for just the Democrats in Kentucky. It’s likely that Sec. Clinton and Sen. Sanders will split the elections, and they’ll definitely split the delegates – all of which won’t change the fact that Clinton is already effectively the Democratic nominee.
On the right, the Trumpster fire that is the GOP’s presidential nominee continues to talk out of both sides of his face. On Monday, after more than a year of trashing pollsters, and insisting he doesn’t need to hire a pollster, Trump did the traditional Republican thing and hired a veteran GOP pollster.
Both Clinton & Trump camps are also beginning to leak some of their strategies to the media – and as expected, it looks to be a brutal next six months.
While the GOP-led US Congress continues to do nothing, the Supreme Court decided not to decide on Monday, on another challenge to the birth control provisions of the ACA, effectively giving a win to pro-women’s forces.
And at the state level, in a surprise turnabout, the Oklahoma state legislature is finally looking at Medicaid expansion, as allowed for in the ACA.

While Trump’s misogynistic tendencies took up much of the media’s time this weekend, both Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders campaigned on, aiming to pick up delegates in Kentucky and Oregon on Tuesday. While the GOP may be in the midst of a raging Trumpster fire, and entertainers from Patrick Stewart to Jennifer Lawrence may be noting how awful he is, Americans in general, still seem to think America hasn’t stopped being great.
Indeed, notes of optimism could be heard from President Obama and Sen. Elizabeth Warren at college commencements, and from Sec. Clinton too, as she campaigned. And while there may be stories of how some Americans are still having problems with Obamacare, studies are proving that the ACA has been incredibly effective.
In general, things may not be perfect in America, but they’re certainly looking better than many in politics and the media – especially those centered around Donald Trump – would make you believe, if you only listened to them.

It’s a Friday – but that doesn’t make it a slow news day, as the Obama Administration decided Thursday they’d had enough of the bullying and BS surrounding the so-called ‘bathroom battles’ over anti-LGBT laws. So late Thursday, the administration released a directive to all public schools in the U.S. to provide transgender students with ‘access to suitable facilities — including bathrooms and locker rooms — that match their chosen gender identity.’
Not surprisingly, the right is trying to fight back in their own way, as a Bush-appointed federal judge ruled on Thursday that a key part of the ACA, that allows for the subsidies that now help more than 12 million Americans have health insurance. Taking away the insurance of millions of Americans – or costing millions of others hundreds or thousands of dollars more a month – isn’t exactly a great election year move by Republicans in Congress, though we can see why they’d try to do almost anything other than focus on their presidential nominee.
Speaking of the orange man, Trump met with Speaker Paul Ryan and other influential Republicans in DC on Thursday, and of course, they all claimed the meeting was “encouraging” – what’d people expect them to say? Still, the Trumpster fire that is The Donald’s campaign keeps burning even higher. Now, Trump’s former butler – both online, and in an interview with CBS – has called for both President Obama and Sec. Clinton to be killed.
If this is the way Republicans want to roll up to the 2016 elections? President Obama said it best, to Mitt Romney in 2012: “Please proceed…”

Taxes, whining, and racism – just your basic mix of modern GOP politics – continues on today, even as Donald Trump meets with Speaker Paul Ryan and others at the GOP Headquarters in DC. It’s likely Trump will dodge many of their questions, just as he continues to dodge the demand for his tax returns.
Someone Trump can’t dodge is Sen. Elizabeth Warren, who’s pretty much had it with Trump’s bluster, sexism, racism, ignorance, and arrogance. She’s taken to kicking Trump’s ass on Twitter, even while Sec. Clinton blasts Trump on the campaign trail for not releasing his taxes – something she’s released over two decades of.
Trump seems to be bringing out the rest of the most well-known right-wing troglodytes too. George Zimmerman has decided to sell the gun he used to kill Trayvon Martin, Ted Nugent has released a fake video where Bernie Sanders shoots Hillary Clinton, and even Heidi Cruz is getting into the act, comparing her husband’s failed campaign to the fight against slavery.
Elsewhere, in North Carolina, pro-LGBT forces keep fighting back against the bigotry & ignorance of that state’s recent anti-trans bathroom law, as students in N.C. are suing their state. They’ve got allies though in the Target Corporation, as Target’s CEO says they won’t cave on their trans-friendly bathroom policy.

It was another Election Tuesday yesterday, and as expected, Trump won in both West Virginia and Nebraska for the Republicans, while Sanders won in West Virginia. Oddly, Nebraska also had a Democratic Primary, which Hillary Clinton won – but because Nebraska Democrats also had a caucus earlier in the year, her win didn’t really count. (Yet, we don’t hear Hillary fans complaining… #justsayin )
In response to Sander’s recent string of wins, it appears Hillary is once again buying ads for the primary. At the same time, she continues to push forward, detailing her well-thought out plans to actually fix America’s problems.
Meanwhile, the roaring Trumpster fire continues on for the GOP. And now it appears that Trump won’t be releasing his tax records before the election after all. At the same time, after flip-flopping on his tax plan four times in four days, the Trump campaign appears to be rewriting his plan, yet again. All this while the Trump campaign just openly chose a white nationalist to be one of his delegates to this summer’s GOP convention. And just think – Trump is less popular with Americans than head lice, root canals, or the much-maligned rock band Nickelback.
The mainstream media also continues to cover the campaign horribly – though thankfully, Jon Stewart came onto David Axelrod’s podcast the other day to blast them for their incompetence, as he used to do daily. Thankfully, Stewart will be back on TV this fall on HBO. And not a moment too soon.

If you’ve thought this year has been totally going to the crapper, you probably weren’t surprised on Monday when North Carolina and the Federal government sued each other over the state’s anti-LGBT bathroom law. Attorney General Loretta Lynch, in a bold stand with LGBT Americans in North Carolina, and specifically trans Americans, made it clear that the White House – and most of America – stand with our fellow LGBT Americans against North Carolina’s crazy law.
While the fight in North Carolina blew up, the GOP Civil War continued, with Speaker Paul Ryan smacking ‘Caribou Barbie’ Palin around, while at the same time, effectively saying if Trump wants Ryan to stay away from this summer’s GOP convention, Ryan would do just that.
Meanwhile, on the Democratic side, Hillary Clinton continues trying to bring Bernie supporters to her side, and she’s making some very persuasive arguments. A growing number of Democrats are even talking about a potential Clinton/Warren ticket.
Considering how 2016 has gone so far? Anything is possible.

Even while a segment of Canada as large as Chicago burned this weekend, the Trumpster fire of the 2016 election rolled on this weekend here in the U.S. Donald Trump, the lump at the center of that disaster, began trying to trash Hillary Clinton – and in the process, took a swipe at Elizabeth Warren. Elsewhere, Caribou Barbie, the former half-time Governor of Alaska, Sarah Palin, crawled out from under her rock to trash Speaker Paul Ryan on behalf of the orange-skinned monster that is He, Trump.
How worried is the rest of the world about Trump? Even Saudi princes are urging Americans to make a choice other than Trump. Meanwhile, in London, they elected that world city’s first Muslim mayor, even as Prince Harry began hosting the Invictus games in South Florida.

While the new “Captain America: Civil War” movie might be what millions of Americans are watching this weekend, the ‘GOP: Civil War’ might end up having even more big blow ups, now that Trump is the Republican nominee for President. After all, neither President Bush is backing Trump. Mitt Romney isn’t even going to the Republican convention this summer. Some of Jeb Bush’s backers have now even said they’ll support Hillary Clinton, over Trump.

And just like that, the primaries – at least on the Republican side – are done, after Gov. John Kasich dropped out of the GOP presidential race on Wednesday.
On the Democratic side, Sec. Clinton seems to focusing ahead on the general election, as her campaign has began putting out some brutal ads against Trump – including one entirely filled with Republicans blasting Trump.
For his part, Trump is starting the general election in a deep hole, and he may already be making it worse by reversing his tune on campaign finance, and beginning to accept Super PAC money. What’s worse, Republicans of huge stature within the GOP, like both Presidents Bush, are making it known they have no plans to endorse Trump or help him in any way.
In health news, California is now raising the legal age for smoking to 21, while researchers have confirmed that raising the minimum wage also improves mental health.
President Obama also visited Flint, Michigan on Wednesday, as he’d promised he would. He spoke with residents and officials there, making it clear he stands with them. He even drank some of Flint’s finest filtered water. Behind the scenes, President Obama continues to try to get the residents of Flint taken care of, and he promised them he would not give up until their water woes were taken care of.

Thanks to Tuesday’s election in Indiana, both Republican and Democratic voters seem to be in a bit of a haze over the results.
For once, Indiana mattered in the presidential primary elections last night, as a massive win by Donald Trump pushed Sen. Ted Cruz to get out of the race. Gov. John Kasich said he would continue, but with Cruz out, there’s no real chance of a contested convention – foreclosing any slim chance Kasich had left. Still, effectively Donald Trump – the man KKK leaders have said would be perfect for the job, and Sen. Elizabeth Warren destroyed on Twitter on Tuesday – is now the effective nominee for the GOP.
On the Democratic side, even though Sen. Sanders won the popular vote, he only netted six delegate votes against Clinton. And even though he’s been mathematically eliminated, Sen. Sanders insists he’s continuing on.

It’s another Tuesday, and another election day, this time in Indiana, where the outcome for both Democrats and Republicans has a possibility of ending the primary season a bit early.

Elsewhere, Puerto Rico defaulted on millions of dollars of debt on Monday, while the GOP Congress seemed to continue its year of doing nothing. Recent polling seems to show that like Trump’s misogynic effects on women, Republicans in Congress doing nothing to help the Hispanic majority of Americans in Puerto Rico may drive other hispanic Americans away from the GOP this fall.
Add that to the list of other problems Republicans are facing going into this fall’s elections – including math – and things just keep getting darker for those on the right.

Meanwhile, Donald Trump had yet another major rally followed by massive violence, that much of the media didn’t cover. It’s not entirely surprising the national political media is missing a few things this weekend, as it’s once again White House Correspondents Dinner weekend.

After Tuesday’s primaries, barring something incredibly unusual, it looks like both the Democratic & Republican Parties have their nominees – Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump. Unsurprisingly, Trump capped off his victory speech Tuesday with what may be one of the most sexist things Trump has said about Clinton to date. Also unsurprisingly, Clinton knocked back Trump’s slam with the perfect response:”If fighting for women’s health care and paid family leave and equal pay is playing the woman card, then deal me in!”
Trump also went on MSNBC’s Morning Joe and clearly stated that he’s going to try to steal Bernie Sanders’ ideas and pass them off as his own.

Elsewhere, Sen. Bernie Sanders and Fmr. Secretary Clinton seem to be trying to patch things up, on their way to the Democratic nomination. At the same time, Republican candidates for their party’s nomination are still fighting over which Americans should use what bathrooms, even as a growing list of other prominent Republicans are making it clear they won’t be caught anywhere near the GOP’s ugly pissing match in Cleveland this summer.

The New York primary is over, and it was a blowout in both major parties. Hillary Clinton beat Bernie Sanders by 16 points – more solidly than many pundits thought she would. Trump defeated both Kasich and Cruz by more than 35 points – though he lost his own home county of Manhattan.
Elsewhere across the country, the social issue wars are still going on, as ignorant, GOP-controlled states are continuing to try and re-fight the battles over abortion and LGBT rights. Thankfully, there was more good news for good people Tuesday, as the Fourth Circuit Court ruled in favor of a transgender teen in Virginia – which will also affect laws in North Carolina.
Justice also looks to be coming to Flint, Michigan today, as news sources have confirmed at least three government officials will be criminally charged today in the ongoing Flint water crisis.
Our money may also be getting a proper facelift, thanks to the musical Hamilton, as well as Secretary Jack Lew, who appears ready to replace Jackson on the $20 with a woman, maybe as soon as this year.

The Democratic Debate in Brooklyn Thursday night seemed somehow fitting in both its brutality and ugliness. And while both Fmr. Sec. Clinton and Sen. Sanders made their own unforced errors, the overall debate doesn’t appear to have changed much in the overall Democratic Primary race.
In another part of New York City, protesters caused difficulties outside a lavish fundraiser hosted by the New York state GOP, where all three Republican candidates were. It’s understandable that Republicans may have been trying to drink their woes away, given the hideously awful poll numbers of their frontrunner, and chief bigot, Donald Trump.

It you were in New York City Wednesday night, it was pretty hard to miss the 27,000 fans of Sen. Sanders as he held a massive rally before tonight’s Democratic Debate with Fmr. Sec. Clinton in Brooklyn. Both Clinton and Sanders also joined union workers on the picket lines against Verizon on Wednesday.
On the Republican side, the Trumpster fire continued, as Trump is now costing the GOP upwards of $20M just for security at this summer’s convention. Things weren’t much better for Ted Cruz, who – while trying to defend his comments on New York values – now also has to defend his old job, where he tried to support a ban on dildos.
Meanwhile, North Carolina’s bigotry may cost them billions of dollars, in both public and private spending. But don’t lump everyone in the ‘Deep South’ together. Louisiana’s fairly new Democratic governor signed a new order protecting LGBT rights on Wednesday, bucking the recent trend.

After a 24 hour stretch of “unqualified” bs in the Democratic primary race for president, both Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders seem to once again be uniting in their support for each other over any Republican. Unfortunately, that may be a bit too late for Former President Bill Clinton, who got into a shouting match with Black Lives Matter activists in Philadelphia.
Things are far worse for Republicans right now, as their frontrunner, Donald Trump, is now viewed somewhat or significantly negatively by 7 in 10 Americans, and ⅓ of Republican voters in multiple states now say they’ll vote for the Democrat or stay home if Trump is the GOP nominee. Sen. Ted Cruz has also been seeing a severely negative reaction from New Yorkers who remember Cruz’ “New York values” slam. Meanwhile, Gov. The Democratic race for President got a lot more dramatic yesterday. Starting with Bernie Sanders’ interview with the New York Daily News, where he repeated that he doesn’t believe victims of a gun crimes should be able to sue gun makers. Not surprisingly, Hillary Clinton was appalled at Sen. Sander’s answer. Clinton also said Sanders has been talking a lot about “things that he obviously hadn’t really studied,” and stated that Sanders, “by his own admission, has never even been a Democrat.”
A Washington Post story followed, with a headline that read, “Clinton questions whether Sanders is qualified to be president.” Then, Wednesday night, at a rally in Philadelphia, Sanders quoted what he’d thought Clinton said, “that she thinks that I am ‘not qualified to be president.’” That was when Sanders proceeded to blast Clinton saying “I don’t believe that she is qualified,” and listed a host of reasons why.
In other news, Voter ID appears to have created some serious voting problems – just as Wisconsin Republicans have admitted they wanted.
In New York, Republicans campaigned for president Wednesday, with Donald Trump getting a home state welcome, and Ted Cruz – infamous for bashing “New York values” got a resounding Bronx cheer.
Meanwhile, with the Panama Papers leak exposing more people and corporations trying to evade taxes, giant drug corporations Pfizer and Allergan decided not to merge, after President Obama tightened tax rules.

Politics could be rocky all over the world today, as the biggest pile of secret documents ever – The Panama Papers – was leaked overnight, exposing a global web of corruption and tax avoidance by some of the most powerful people in the world. Back in the U.S., Republican voters are still deeply divided, and not really liking any of their candidates. That became clear in North Dakota over the weekend, where all 25 GOP delegates chose to be ‘unassigned’ rather than bond themselves to any of the current top Republican candidates. News about Trump’s anger with his critics also leaked out overnight, even while several top members of Bernie Sanders campaign appear to be throwing in the towel, at least emotionally, according to a New York Times story.
Meanwhile, Camp Clinton seems to be focused on logic & facts, which is exactly what her supporters want. The fact-checkers from the NYTimes, WaPo, and NPR are also backing Clinton, over Sanders’ latest accusation of campaign donations from individuals working in the fossil fuels industry.
In the states, Democrats are fighting another new anti-LGBT bill in Mississippi, even while North Carolina’s version of a similar bill may cost that state billions. After his disastrous abortion comments on Wednesday, yesterday Donald Trump had a surprise meeting in DC with the RNC, like a kid getting called to the principal’s office. While many have said it before, yesterday, Donald Trump may have truly aborted his chances to become president, with what’s probably the stupidest thing he’s said yet – which, considering the Trumpster fire his campaign has been, is an amazing feat of stupidity, worthy of his supporters. Every candidate for president in both major parties denounced Trump over the comments. Both Pro-choice and anti-choice groups of all kinds were united in saying Trump went too far.
Trump, however, made it even worse, saying the Geneva Conventions are a problem and like NATO should be abandoned. All of this was in the shadow of the 2016 world nuclear security summit in Washington, DC. It’s not a wonder, then, that major corporate sponsors are growing increasingly nervous about participating in this summer’s RNC convention.
Sadly, the Trumpster fire continued, with a 15 year old girl getting sexually assaulted at one Trump rally, while Speaker Paul Ryan got booed in his hometown at another Trump rally.

Donald Trump’s campaign manager Corey Lewandowski was arrested Tuesday for assaulting a female reporter earlier in the year – and of course, Trump is standing behind him, fighting the charges. Western states created some news over the weekend, with Bernie Sanders – or should we now call him BIRDIE Sanders – picking up strong caucus wins in Washington, Alaska, and Hawaii. Just two days after the attacks in Brussels, and all the candidates for President are looking fairly presidential – except the two leading Republicans, Trump and Cruz. Last night, they had another childish fight on Twitter. If you thought Donald Trump might be chastened after Heidi Cruz smacked him back yesterday, you’d be wrong. Oh sure, Trump says he’s smarter than everybody based on “certain results that I get in doing things.” Last time I checked, “doin’ things” doesn’t really rank highly as an IQ score.
Meanwhile, both President Obama and Secretary Clinton were giving lessons in how to handle counterterrorism yesterday. Obama was reminding Argentinians that the best way to defeat terrorism was reflected in how America acted after the Boston bombings. He also explained that dealing with Congress is like herding cats – though we think some cats are smarter than others in Congress.
Speaking of Congress, Speaker Paul Ryan gave a pretty amazing speech to the House interns yesterday, even admitting he was wrong about his “makers & takers” rhetoric from a few years ago.
Maybe Mr. Ryan could do more than just give a good speech though, by pushing Congress to renew the Voting Rights Act, since voting in Arizona this week was a particular example of how not having the VRA could take away some of American’s most basic rights.
