• Former House Speaker Dennis Hastert has been indicted on federal charges for trying to hide close to $1 million in bank withdrawals and for lying to the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Each count of the indictment carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
• George Pataki, the former three-term governor of New York, officially launched his bid for the Republican presidential nomination. Pataki is the eighth GOP candidate to officially enter the 2016 race.
• Phoenix police and the FBI say they’re aware that a man is planning a rally outside a Phoenix mosque during Friday prayer services that will include a contest of drawings depicting the Prophet Muhammad. “We have to hold the cartoon contest… to be able to show the true colors of Islam,” the man said.
