• The House on Thursday morning elected Rep. Paul Ryan, R-Wisconsin, as the next speaker of the House. “I never thought I’d be speaker, but early in my life, I wanted to serve this House,” Ryan said in a speech from the floor. “We are wiping the slate clean.”
• The Senate passed a comprehensive budget deal early this morning that lifts the debt ceiling into March 2017 and spending levels for two years. It now heads to President Obama’s desk. On Wednesday, the House overwhelmingly passed the legislation, 266-167.
• Hillary Clinton will roll out two proposals to reform the criminal justice system Friday in Atlanta, where she is set to launch “African Americans for Hillary” with two campaign events.
• Yesterday, in his first post-debate appearance, Jeb Bush maintained that his campaign is not on its last leg. “It’s not on life support,” he said of his campaign. “We have the most money, we have the greatest organization. We’re doing fine.”
